Local (Dayton Area) Ski Sites

  • Community Golf Center – 2917 Berkley St, Dayton, OH 45409 – This is a local favorite for local skiing in the Dayton area.  Bring your own equipment and break your own trails in the gently rolling terrain.

 

Regional Ski Areas – Michigan

  • Allegan State Game Area Forest (Michigan West Lower Peninsula ~ 5 hour drive from Dayton)  offers 25 km (15 miles) of trails that are groomed for cross-country skiing. Skiing is permitted only after January 1. There are two sets of loops, one on each side of the road.  Click here to view the Allegan_State_Ski_Trails PDF 
  • Cross Country Ski Headquarters – Michigan  9435 N. Cut Rd., Roscommon, MI 48653 – Ski Outfitters, Ski Area, Rentals and Day Lodge.
  • CrossCountrySkiHQ_trail This is a full service site that is great for beginners or a warm-up day of skiing. There are 19 kilometers over 8 groomed trails, rentals and an on-site grill in the day lodge.
  • Gaylord, MichiganThere are several places in the Gaylord, MI area.  Once quaint place is near Gaylord’s City Elk Park at the East end of Commerce Blvd off of S. Otsego Blvd.  This 3k trail is lit by post lights along the groomed trail and is a quiet place to enjoy an hour of leisurely skiing after dark.

 

  • Hartwick Pines State Park, 4216 Ranger Road, Grayling, MI – Located between Grayling and Gaylord, MI just off of I-75, this park has 15k of groomed trails.  With an area of 9,672 acres, Hartwick Pines is the largest state park in the Lower Peninsula. The park’s rolling hills, which are built of ancient glacial deposit, overlook the valley of the East Branch of the AuSable River, four small lakes and unique timber lands. The principal feature of this park is the 49-acre forest of Old Growth Pines which gives the park its name. This forest is a reminder of Michigan’s past importance in the pine lumber industry as well as a source of inspiration for the future of our forests. The park is rich in scenic beauty and because of the different habitats it encompasses, there is ample subject matter for the sports person, photographer, or naturalist throughout the year. The park is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. year round.

Regional Ski Areas – Ohio

Malabar Farm Trail

  • Malabar Farm State Park (Ohio) A 2.5 hour drive from Dayton, located in North-central Ohio off of I-71 (directions and map).  Hiking and horseback trails are available for cross country skiing.  These trails are unimproved and may need to be manually broken.  They are only marked with occasional post markings.  The park office has limited hours.  No ski equipment rental even though some web resources claim they do (they did in years past, but those services have ceased).

  •  Laurel Ridge XC Ski Center(a PA State Park ski concession operated by Riversport)  Laurel Ridge XC Ski Center is located on one of the highest mountain ridges in the Laurel Highlands region of South Western Pennsylvania.  Our ski center operates out of  Laurel Ridge State Park’s concession building managed by the Laurel Hill State Park DCNR of Pennsylvania.XC Ski Center Phone Number 724-455-7303Ski Conditions- 724-455-7303 (updated daily depending on conditions)
